Still Perfect; Bradford Wins Two More Over Weekend

The dream of 42-0 is still very much alive for the Bradford Rattlers. This weekend Bradford played back to back games on the Friday and Saturday; winning both contests. First, Bradford downed the Lefroy Wave 4-1, before taking down the Orangeville Americans 5-3.
On Saturday, October 15, Bradford traveled down Highway 11 to take on the Lefory Wave. The game marked the season debut of centre Stanislav Nikonov and the return of Sergay Romanov to the line-up. Fittingly, these two forwards led the way capturing the 2nd and 3rd stars of the game.
Pontus Ribbensteadt made 26 saves and captured first star of the game honors. Pontus now leads the GMHL with an impressive .950 save percentage and 1.33 goals against average. The solid goaltending of both Ribbensteadt and Carson Bird has been an underlying story this season. The high scoring offence and shutdown defense have been made possible by a strong goaltending backbone.
After attending the CHL’s Fort Wayne Komets training camp this past summer, Stanislav Nikonov finds himself in a Rattler’s uniform for a third season. The 6’3” forward hails from Moscow, Russia. He had a total of 69 points (29g, 40a) in just 33 games last season. Stanislav is also a two time GMHL all-star.
This Sunday, October 26, Bradford played host to the Orangeville Americans. With less then 10 minutes remaining in the 3rd period, Bradford was down 3-2 and in jeopardy of breaking their winning streak. With only 5:45 left in the game, veteran Stanislav Nikonov not only tied the game, but put the Rattlers ahead in with two goals in the same shift. Bradford’s Conor Smith would secure the win with his second of the game; final score 5-3.
Newly signed forward Brandon Falsarella made his debut against Orangeville. Brandon is a Bradford native, 15 years of age, standing 5’9” and weighing 165lbs.
Bradford now sits third in league standings; behind Sturgeon Falls and Temiscaming. However, the Lumberjacks and Titans have played twelve and eight games respectively, to the Rattlers’ seven. With a undefeated Rattlers squad, those clubs shouldn't feel safe.
Bradford hits the ice again this Friday, October 21st, when they travel down to Shelburne(0-7-1) to take on the Red Wings. Shelburne has been off to a shaky start; failing to register a win this season. However, with the addition of goaltender Anton Todykov the Red Wings have a chance to win any game.
