"If Kevin Cloutier decided to claim a Soviet skater at the next Canadian Hockey League auction on June 28, the Tigers would align a real Russian channel.
Ivor Kosorenkov, director general of the Felines confirmed the arrival of Egor Kurbatov (also writes Yegor, Cloutier) in the Bois-Francs at the next training camp. In Canada for the past two years, he has been considered an "out-of-territory" player in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) registers. He will not take one of the two European player lockers in the locker room of the Tigers.
Kurbatov aligns with the Bradford Rattlers in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League in Ontario. The 18-year-old Muscovite has scored 65 points, including 21 goals, in 36 games last season. Rookie of the year in 2016, he had 32 points in as many games in his first campaign in North America.
From the top of his 5'11 '' and 175 pounds, he is a member of the stable of the Creative Artists Agency Sports, directed by Pat Brisson. Kurbatov is the protégé of JP Barry. Cloutier, very happy with his catch, is eager to see how his protégé will behave on the ice at the next training camp. The Tiger General Manager followed this new trend in the CHL. Over the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of European skaters who do not have the foreign player label on Canadian ice. The regulations stipulate that these hockey players must have spent two years in North America before joining a CHL team to have such status.
Evgeny Kiselev (Shawinigan Cataracts) and Danill Miromanov (Acadie-Bathurst Titan), among others, had a similar track to Kurbatov before making the jump in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. It is no more or less a bypass to the European LCH draft.
Before becoming the Tigers' property, Kevin Cloutier had to make the formal application to the Ontario Hockey League authorities. They ensured that Kurbatov's rights did not belong to any of their formations. If Kurbatov breaks the line of the Felines, the formation of the Bois-Francs will have to buy the rights of liberation to the Rattlers. Generally, this type of transaction seals for a few thousand dollars"
