RATTLERS TO DEFEND RUSSELL CUP TITLE
(Bradford, ON; March 13, 2014)
The Bradford Rattler have given themselves an opportunity to defend their Russell Cup Championship title. The Rattlers upset the first place Seguin Huskies, dominating the series to a 4-0 series sweep. Their opponent is the cross-town rival Bradford Bulls.
The Bulls defeated the 2013 Cup Finalist Temiscaming Titans.
The Rattlers have won three Russell Cups in the past eight seasons and will be looking for their second straight. Several veterans remain from last year's championship squad, giving the Rattlers the experience advantage. Gallo, Scott, Cameron, Gombar and Bateman were all members of the last championship squad.
The Bulls are the first seeded team from the South while the Rattlers are the third seed. They finished fourth and sixth respectively in the Regular Season standings.
Needless to say, the territorial rival of two teams sharing the same city has always garnered a huge rivalry.
The Bulls were Bradford's original junior hockey club from 1988-2006. The Bulls took a leave of absence from '06 until 2012. The Rattlers stepped into the city and have remained a powerhouse in the GMHL since.
Many are calling the championship match the 'Battle of Bradford'.
The schedule is as follows with the BWG as the Rattlers home arena and Bob Fallis Arena as Bulls country. The series is a best-of-seven.
Saturday, March 15, 7:00pm - Bob Fallis Arena
Monday, March 17, 8:00pm - BWG
