Disappointing Weekend
(Bradford, ON; January 30, 2012)
By: Sean Werth

The final weekend of January saw your Bradford Rattlers play three tough games against Temiscaming, South Muskoka and Mattawa. The first game on Friday in Temiscaming saw the Rattlers fall 5-4, followed by a 7-6 loss to the Shield in their barn. Bradford got back on course at home, as they defeated the Mattawa Voyageurs by a score of 8-2. With 8 games remaining in the season, Bradford occupies 4th place in the GMHL with a 25-5-4 record.

Temiscaming top line of Tahbazian, Mendelsohn and LeClair was too much to contain as they scored a collected 9 points to hand Bradford a 5-4 loss. Gatti and Norrby led the Rattlers with 2 goals each, while Rob Sutherland made 53 saves.

The loss to South Muskoka can partially be attributed to the two former Rattlers in the Shield’s lineup. Kyle Blohm and Stanislav Nikonov bite their former team with Kyle scoring 4 goals and Stanislav recording 3 assists. Muskoka’s top defenseman Adam MacBeth had a 5 point night with 1 goal and 4 assists. For Bradford, Sutherland and 48 saves against his former team and Norrby once again scored 2 goals. All of this contributed to a 7-6 overtime loss for the Rattlers.

The final game of the weekend was a penalty filled battle against the Voyageurs. A Sunday night beat down, both on the scoreboard and the ice, resulted in Bradford taking an 8-2 victory. Travis White (5pts), Conor Smith (4pts, and Andreas Norrby (3pts) led Bradford in scoring. A line brawl in the 1st period resulted in 5 players receiving 15 minutes in penalties with game misconducts. Sutherland and Ahlund split the time in goal for Bradford, with Sutherland getting the win.

Bradford’s next home game is February 5th when the Lefroy Wave come to town for a 7:30 puck drop. Come on out and support your Bradford Rattlers!
