Whalers Post-Season Ends
The Niagara Whalers hit the ice at the Vale Centre in Port Colborne, Ontario on March 17th down 3 – 2 in the best of seven south divisional finals against the St. George Ravens and needing a game six win to keep their 2017 – 2018 Greater Metro Hockey League season alive. The Whalers were coming off a 14 – 2 loss in game five in St. George 24 hours earlier.
21 year old Brandon Lindberg led Niagara with two goals in the Whalers game six 8 – 4 loss on Sunday evening. Zach Main and Erik Peavey had one goal each for Niagara while Patrick Desjardin, Ethan Spaxman, Jakob Reeves, Frolov Mikhail, Kellan Rosenbaum and Jesse Masterson had one contributor a piece on a Niagara goal in the Whalers final game of the 20147 – 2018 GMHL season. 21 year old goaltender Will Harvey stopped 20 of 28 saves in his final junior career hockey appearance between the pipes for the Whalers.
The Niagara Whalers have graduated 13 players from their 2017 – 2018 roster in Patrick Desjardins (D/Welland,ON), Alex Remedios (D/Guelph,ON), Ethan Spaxman (D/Guelph,ON), David Christopher (F/Buffalo,NY), Steven Farano (F/Oakville,ON), Justin Graham (F/Shelburne,ON), Brandon Lindberg (C/Waterloo,ON), Jake Lloyd (F/Burlington,ON), Zach Main (F/Welland,ON), Nick Pastorious (F/Toronto,ON), Daniel Pugliese (F/D/Ancaster,ON), Jacob Reeves (F/St. Catharines,ON) and Will Harvey (G/Nanaimo,BC).
Whaler general manager Spencer De Wolfe told the Junior Hockey Network that “we played some good teams in the playoffs first round can Windsor who would have been a top three to four team in our conference if they added the players the picked up at the halfway through and deadline earlier in the season. Kingsville another good team and St George played a strong series. At the end of the day you can only control what you’re able to.”
