Advance to Third Round
Needing one more win in the best of five series to advance to the third round of the 2018 post – season, the Niagara Whalers hit the ice on March 4th in a late afternoon matinee in Kingsville, Ontario leading the series 2 – 0 against the Kingsville Kings in a Greater Metro Hockey League.
With an unassisted goal at 15:06 of the opening period, Niagara’s Zach Main fires the Whalers first goal to give the host a 1 – 0 lead. Steven Farano finds Jake Lloyd with 18 seconds remaining in the period to send the Whalers into the first intermission up 2 – 0. Only 33 seconds into the middle stanza, Whaler Nick Pastorious finds the back of the Kings net to increase the lead 3 – 0 on a Niagara power play. David Christopher and Jakob Reeves set up Pastorious’ goal. With Kingsville on a power play 15:51 into the second, Blake Naida finds the back of Whaler goaltender Will Harvey’s net with Ivan Mikhailov and Zachary Uppleger registering the helpers on Naida’s power play marker.
Zach Main fires his second of the game at 17:35 of the final period on a Whaler power play with Lloyd adding the contributor on Main’s power play goal. With 1:15 left in the game, Jake Lloyd gives Niagara a 5 – 1 win with Farano notching the assist to advance to Whalers to the third round of the GMHL post – season.
