VAN NESS LEADS COYOTES TO VICTORY
Alliston, Ontario
October 26, 2013
Derek Van Ness played exceptional on Thursday night, notching five points (3g, 2a) on route to a 10-4 victory over the Powassan Eagles. On home ice, the Coyotes came out slow, surrendering two goals to Powassan in the first three minutes of the game. However, back to back unanswered goals for Nikita Nikitin gave Alliston momentum and they never looked back. Nikitin finished the contest with three goals while Bruno Novotny got the win between the pipes. Newly acquired forward Brandon Manktelow, who joined the squad last week from a trade with the Bradford Bulls, notched his first goal as a Coyote. Randy Moretley, Boris Tobolov and Tyler Happeney each scored as well.
Yesterday evening (Oct. 25) Alliston made the long road trip up to Temiscaming to play the powerhouse Titans. The Coyotes kept it close all game but eventaully lost the match 6-4. Alliston made the trip with a considerably short bench, only rolling three lines. Filip Sedivy had two goals and an assist while Gordy Bonnel had a rare goalless evening with just three assists. Zub and Nikitin had the other two goals for Alliston.
The Coyotes will look to get back in the win column on Halloween Night when they host the Bradford Rattlers at home. The game takes place on Thursday, October 31 at 7:30PM. The Rattlers are the defending Russell Cup champions, but have struggled from the prolific 'cup hangover' sitting in the middle of the GMHL standings.
