ALLISTON COACH MOVES TO ECHL
Alliston, Ontario
Jan 7, 2014
The Head Coach of the Alliston Coyotes Al Sims has been hired as the new Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach of the Evansville Icemen ECHL club.
Sims has spent the 2014-15 and 2013-14 seasons coaching in the Greater Metro Junior 'A' Hockey League, splitting time between the Bradford Rattlers and Alliston Coyotes hockey clubs.
Sims lead the Bradford Rattlers to a Russell Cup Finals appearance last season and the Alliston Coyotes to a record of 13-15-0 record this season.
Coach Sims had also previously served as the GMHL's Advisor for Player Advancement.
Prior to joining the GMHL, Sims' boasted one of the most accomplished hockey resumes in the industry -- having coached professional hockey for 25 seasons. Al also coached four seasons in the NHL --three years as an Assistant Coach of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and another as the Head Coach of the San Jose Sharks.
The GMHL has helped hundreds of players advance to higher levels of the game. However, it is always another accomplishment to have one of our management go to a higher level. This comes just a few months after long-time Rattlers bench boss Johan Lundskog advanced to the Swedish AllSvenken.
Sims leaves as a friend and supporter of the GMHL. The great relationship between Sims and the GMHL will continue to help our players as a valuable resource in both advancing our players and sending talented hockey players to the GMHL to develop.
Best of Luck Al!
