ALLISTON CLIMBS TO FIFTH PLACE
Alliston, Ontario
January 19, 2014
The second half of the Alliston Coyotes season has been nothing short of incredible. Alliston added to their season last weekend with two hard fought victories. Alliston took down both the third place South Muskoka Shield and Toronto Predators.
Alliston was put to the test and proved that they are a legitimate threat to win this year's Russell Cup last Thursday (Jan 16) when the powerhouse South Muskoka Shield came to town. Anton Todykov played incredable in goal, keeping Alliston in the game and extending the match to a shootout. Vladislav Sokolov scored the shootout winner to secure the 5-4 victory. The line of Gordy Bonnel-Filip Sedivy - Nikita Nikitin was the best on the ice for the evening. Bonnel scored two goals with helping hands from his linemates. Derek Van Ness and Chris Brown also scored for Alliston.
The Coyotes hit the road again yesterday (Jan 18) to take on the Toronto Predators. Alliston ran into a hot goaltender, but managed to pull out a 4-3 victory in regulation. Denis Tsaruk got the victory in goal while Jacob Vander Zaag was an offensive force to be reckoned with. Jacob had three points (2g, 1a) and was named second star of the game. Bonnel and Brown each scored for the second straight game.
Alliston surge through the standings has been extraordinary to say the least. They have won 18 of their last 19 games after struggling to open the season. They sit alone in fifth place in the GMHL with a record of 25-9-2.
Alliston's next home game takes place this Thursday, January 23rd when the Lefroy Wave come to town. Puck drop is 7:30pm at the New Tecumseth Recreation Centre.
