COYOTES ADVANCE TO PLAYOFF BRACKET
Alliston, Ontario
Feb 17, 2015
The Alliston Coyotes have advanced to the main bracket of the 2014-2015 Russell Cup Playoffs. Earlier Tuesday, the Coyotes dominated the Orangeville Americans in a one-game elimination round to enter the main bracket. Alliston will be playing the Tottenham Steam.
Under newly named Head Coach Jim Aldred, who succeeded the departing friend of the Coyotes Al Sims when he was hired to the Evansville Icemen ECHL club, the Coyotes have implemented a defense first system that was on full display in Alliston.
The Coyotes skated their way to a 11-3 thrashing, proving their worth in this year's playoff run.
Leading the way was deadline acquisition Frederik Sury, who was acquired part way through the season following a Russell Cup Championship last year. Sury had four points (2g, 2a) to be named the first star of the game.
Donald Oldreive was given the start and played strong making 33 saves.
It was a balanced offense that won the game for Alliston. Goal scorers from all up-and-down the lineup included: Sury 2, Akimychau 2, Khalemin, Jamnicky, Cunningham, Russu, Chegrintcev, Kocar, Karpikov.
The Coyotes now set their eyes on local rival and top GMHL seed, the Tottenham Steam. The first round playoff schedule will be:
Game #1: Wed. Feb. 18, Tottenham 8:00pm
Game #2: Thurs. Feb. 19, Alliston 7:30pm
Game #3: Sat. Feb. 21, Tottenham 7:30pm
Additional games will be announced as necessary.
